God-OSP and it’s effectiveness in psychological practice
God-Oriented Spiritual Psychotherapy (God-OSP) is a therapeutic approach designed to address clients seeking spiritual guidance when traditional therapies fail to meet their transcendental needs. Introduced by Janbozorgi in 2000, God-OSP integrates a religious framework to help individuals reconnect with their inherent purpose and relationship with God, especially in the context of psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

God-OSP is part of the fourth wave of psychology, adopting a transdiagnostic approach that highlights the negative impact of severing the connection with God. This disconnection often results from trauma or incorrect learning, leading to cognitive distortions and impaired mental health. The therapy focuses on restoring this spiritual relationship, aiming to heal internal conflicts and re-align individuals’ actions with their divine nature. Central to this therapy is the belief that humans are born with a pure nature (Fitrat), whose ultimate purpose is spiritual fulfillment by aligning actions with God’s will. Traumas or negative experiences can distort this purity, causing misaligned behavior.

The therapy emphasizes the integration of spiritual and psychological dimensions of human existence. It encourages “wise regulation,” where individuals align their actions with divine guidance, ensuring each decision reflects their true self and spiritual purpose. By promoting self-reflection, moral integrity, and spiritual awareness, God-OSP helps individuals restore balance when their actions become misaligned with their divine nature.

God-OSP has demonstrated effectiveness in treating various psychological disorders, showing that a holistic approach incorporating spiritual and psychological dimensions can offer lasting healing. The therapeutic process involves continuous evaluation of one’s actions, guided by innate intellect and divine revelation, leading to greater mental and spiritual well-being. Ultimately, God-OSP offers a pathway to mental health that goes beyond conventional psychological models, fostering both personal and spiritual growth.
